Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has issued the newly revised Regulations on the Division of Radio Frequencies of the People's Republic of China (Order No. 62 of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, hereinafter referred to as the "Regulations"), which will come into formal effect on July 1.
The Regulations are fundamental administrative rules for the development, utilization and protection of radio frequency spectrum resources in China, playing a crucial role in promoting the rational and effective use of radio frequency spectrum resources and guiding the high-quality development of the radio industry. In accordance with the Radio Regulations of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) comprehensively considers the medium- and long-term needs for spectrum resources from various departments and industries, and regularly organizes the revision of the Regulations.
In this revision of the Regulations, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has taken the lead globally in allocating all or part of the 6425-7125 MHz frequency band for IMT (International Mobile Telecommunications, including 5G/6G) systems. The 6GHz frequency band is the only high-quality resource with large bandwidth in the mid-frequency range, featuring both coverage and capacity advantages. It is particularly suitable for the deployment of 5G or future 6G systems, while also enabling the leveraging of the advantages of the existing global 5G industry in the mid-frequency range. The confirmation of its regulatory status in the form of administrative rules this time is conducive to stabilizing the industry expectations for 5G/6G, promoting the consistency of global or regional division of 5G/6G spectrum resources, providing the necessary mid-frequency spectrum resources for the development of 5G/6G, and advancin
